Important hay fever warning to England fans going out to watch Slovenia game at Euros

It's bad news, guys

After a rather uninspiring start for the national team in the group stages of the 2024 Euros, there's a lot of pressure on tonight's match against Slovenia.

If the Three Lions lose, they'll drop into a miserable third place in the table. And while they're already guaranteed a spot in the knockouts, it's still not a great position to be in.

As for why it's going so badly, manager Gareth Southgate says: "We are not pressing well enough, with enough intensity. We have limitations in how we can do that with the physical condition.

"And we are not keeping the ball well enough. We have to keep the ball better and build with more control."

But, another poor performance from Southgate's men isn't the only thing football fans who've travelled out to Germany for tonight's match have to worry about.

That's right, it's hay fever season and our eyes are as itchy and noses as blocked as ever.

And while there's a long list of ways you can reduce your symptoms, one won't come as welcome news to anyone planning on downing a pint or two at the game.

In a video shared to TikTok, Dr. Karan Raj has shared some tips.

He said: "Here are three hacks to beat hayfever and you're not going to be happy with the last one."

The first two hacks involve putting vaseline around your nostrils and having a shower and changing your clothes after going outside. Nice and easy.

But, the third may dampen your Euros plans.

Dr. Raj explains: "Limit alcohol intake. Alcohol can increase histamine levels in your body.

"This is a chemical which increases inflammation and allergy-type symptoms."

While the body naturally produces histamine, it can also be found in certain foods and drinks.

Examples of foods that contain histamines include cheese, meats, fish and fermented foods such as sauerkraut.

It is also present in a number of alcoholic beverages, with red wine being the worst culprit.

Normally, the body easily breaks down the histamine but this is not always the case.

If you are particularly sensitive to it - as hay fever sufferers are - consuming histamine-rich alcoholic drinks can cause similar symptoms or worsen those you already have.

These symptoms include difficulty breathing, hives, nausea, flushed cheeks and a blocked or runny nose.

So, while the idea of downing pints at the match may sound glorious, it might be best to stick to a lemonade.
