A woman who has lost roughly three stone while using weight-loss medication has revealed a more unusual side effect she’s experienced.

YouTuber Liz started using Mounjaro in June last year after trying ‘everything’ in the past to try and lose weight and maintain it, ending up in ‘vicious cycles’.

Now rolled out on the NHS for this type of treatment, the injectable has been available for Brits to access online using prescription.

Typically designed for people with Type-2 diabetes, Mounjaro contains Tirzepatide, which mimics the actions of the GLP-1 and GIP hormones released by the body after eating.

The drug then makes people feel fuller for longer and reduces their appetite, which combined with reduced food intake and exercise, helps them lose weight.

And last month, Liz revealed she had hit her goal weight, dropping down 40 pounds.

But as she does ads for her chosen provider of the treatment, she has shared some of the side effects she experienced in a video on her page, @fitwithliz.

Common side effects of using Tirzepatide include feeling sick, indigestion, constipation and diarrhoea.

For Liz, she said she experienced ‘really, really bad bloating’ when she first started using Mounjaro.

“And [I] had vivid dreams and a really bad dry mouth,” she added. “I felt like I’d had a whole bottle of wine every single night before bed, woke up with the biggest dry mouth ever."

Compared to the side effects that others have reported, Liz says it was ‘really not that bad’ for her, although she did get ‘more nausea’ when her dose first increased.

“Sometimes I was sick, sometimes I just felt nauseous,” she explained. “And it was that first month, the first few weeks, on five milligrams that I didn’t feel that good. It wasn’t every day.”

The nausea went away for Liz though, and as she went up to 7.5 milligrams, she experienced a rather odd side effect.

“It’s kind of gone now, [but] I couldn’t drink a coffee on an empty stomach,” she said. “I would have to wake up, eat something even though I wasn’t hungry, then drink a coffee.

“If I didn’t do that, I would end up feeling really sick but luckily that has gone away now.”

ASDA Online Doctor recommends limiting or avoiding caffeinated drinks like coffee while on Mounjaro, as it can affect your blood sugar levels and interrupt your sleep.

“Highly caffeinated drinks are more likely to increase your risk of diarrhoea and nausea too,” it adds.
