A hospice nurse who has worked with dying patients has revealed the reason why she believes in an afterlife.

Los Angeles based nurse Julie McFadden, who goes by @hospicenursejulie online, has turned years of work in hospice care into an upcoming book titled Nothing to Fear: Demystifying Death to Live More Fully.

Ahead of its publication on 11 June, as per the Daily Mail, Julie has shared an extract from her book.

She explained that there are several signs that a loved one is close to death, revealing they will often become sentimental and wish to have all of their friends and family members present.

Julie even revealed that dogs can often sense when their owner is dying and become more protective.

However, the most interesting experience Julie recalled was the reasons why she believes there is more to come after death - something which will no doubt come as a comfort to heartbroken relatives.

Recalling the behaviours of several different patients, Julie explained that it often appears as though a 'veil is lifting' over a person as they go through their final moments.

"Having witnessed so many deaths, I feel like I've had the privilege of seeing a veil being lifted as people are on their way to a place that feels like home," she wrote.

"I can say that my own few experiences have given me nothing but confidence that a better world awaits us. I do believe that there's an afterlife because of experiences like these."

Julie went on to acknowledge that losing a loved one is devastating for those who are left behind, but urged grieving families to take comfort in the idea that they will be one day reunited.

The nurse revealed that she has often felt 'homesick' for a place she couldn't remember.

"I think that when we die, we awaken in a place we've always known but had forgotten," she added.

For anyone seeking further comfort in the idea that there's life after death, Julie also shared a video in October 2022, which revealed terminally ill patients often begin to see their deceased loved ones in their final moments.

“Here is my most comforting fact about death and dying. The craziest things we see on hospice is that most people will start seeing dead relatives, dead loved ones, dead friends, dead pets before they die," she said in the TikTok video.

She went on to clarify that although healthcare professionals 'no idea why this happens' its something that happens often and is comforting to those left behind.
