A doctor has been warning people about the dangers of a sinister looking 'pink slime' appearing in their bathroom.
Frankly, the only kind of slime that ought to be present in the bathroom is the kind you squeeze out of a tube to brush onto your teeth or squirt out of a bottle to help wash your body and hair.
However, we tend to call those kinds of slime 'paste' and 'gel', and what we're talking about here is the sort of slime you definitely didn't buy at a shop to hygienically slather all over yourself.

This slime is instead the stuff that can pop up in various damp corners of the bathroom if they're not given regular access to fresh air and a collection of cleaning products.
Dr Karan Raj was reacting to a TikTok video of a man in a hospital bed as he joked about not cleaning the pink slime when he explained just what it is and what it can do to you.

Diving into the disgusting detail, the doctor delivered a decisive declaration on the damage this pink slime did.

"If you've seen this pink slime lurking in your bathroom it's not mould, it's bacteria," the doctor explained.
"Specifically one called Serratia Marcescens, and it vomits hot pink all over your bathroom. This bacteria loves damp, moist places and enjoys munching on fatty deposits like those found in soaps and shampoos.
"Hence why it likes to hang out in your steamy bathroom."
That explains why it's there, and Dr Raj said that the bacteria was 'pretty harmless' when you touched it though you'd still rather not get it into 'eyes or open wounds'.

The real danger is for 'those who are immunocompromised' according to the doctor, as he explained that the pink slime could infect the chest, gut or urine of someone more vulnerable to the nasty little things that plague us.
Even more concerning about the presence of pink slime is what else could grow in conditions where it is ripe for cultivation.
If your bathroom is in the sort of state where you're getting pink slime then you're liable to be growing other stuff in there beyond bacteria.
You might end up getting the dreaded black mould, which is pretty darn bad for your respiratory system.

All in all it would be for the best if you regularly cleaned your bathroom to prevent the build up of slime, whether it be pink or otherwise.
As such you'd better remember to crack out the cleaning products from time to time and keep the bathroom well ventilated so it's not just stewing in a mixture of damp air all the time.
