Personally, I've never been able to wrap my head around the idea of biting your nails but it seems to be a guilty pleasure for plenty of people out there.
For those of you that do, you've probably had countless friends and family members telling you to cut it out and disregard their advice, but they might just be on to something.
It's important to keep your nails healthy, whether that's through trips to the salon or just keeping them clean - as unkept nails are definitely a red flag in the dating world. You certainly wouldn't want to end up like a student in Birmingham who had fungus growing from her nails after a manicure.

Meanwhile, another woman believes her manicure 'saved her life' after she discovered some bizarre black lines on her thumb.
Zack D. Films - known for his horrifyingly realistic simulation videos - has previously shared an explainer on the various problems that can arise if you bite your nails, but if that's not enough to put you off, then a new TikTok video might just put an end to the habit for good.
American user @breezzyy.yy recently shared a clip of her heavily bandaged hand from a hospital bed.
In the caption of the viral video, which has attracted well over 50 million views, she wrote: "Your sign to stop biting your nails," along with a crying face emoji.

The woman later explained: "I had a small cut on my finger from picking at my cuticle. Bacteria got in and caused my finger to swell so they did a minor surgery to wash out the bacteria."
In the comments, she suggested that it was definitely now time to stop biting her nails, with the trip to the hospital leaving her 'traumatised'.
While the photo she shared almost appears as if her fingers or parts of her hands may well be gone forever, the TikToker reassured viewers in her caption that, thankfully, she has retained all of her fingers.
Social media users were quick to take to the comment section to share their thoughts, with one writing: "I was biting my nails when I saw this."

Another added: "Please remind me every time."
While a third commented: "I started getting acrylics all the time and haven't bit my nails in years."
Our nails can also be a good signifier of health, with subtle changes or signs on them potentially an indicator that something might be quite not right.
