24-year-old woman issues warning after ‘simple blister’ led to her being forced to have leg amputated

She claims that 'it could happen to anybody' and has urged people to do one thing

A woman has sent a warning out to people after what she thought was a 'simple blister' caused her to get her lower leg amputated.

Charlie Beardshall-Moore, who is from Hull, has sent an urgent warning to people to be aware of how severe a perceived blister can become, if it is given no medical attention.

The Brit is currently recovering at home following her diagnosis, with partner Jason Copeland and grandmother Sheryl Moore by her side, as she is confined to a wheelchair until medics can fit a prosthetic limb - a process that can take up to three months.

Charlie used to be an active and sporty individual, saying that her transformation has been traumatic, as she went from enjoying swimming and going on shopping trips to being confined to her house, staying put and conserving energy.

After getting a nasty blister, she left it untreated and it eventually became infected, later threatening her life and well-being.

She revealed to HullLive that she battled with sepsis due to her infection, as doctors only told her last week that the only method of recovery was by amputating her lower left leg.

The other method, which involved taking an artery from one leg and putting it in the other, was ruled out.

Charlie said: "People literally need to go and get it checked out straight away. I have now lost my leg. It could happen to anybody,

"My life has changed massively. I used to go out and was active every day, swimming, working at KFC and going shopping. Now I have lost my independence and I'm having to rely on my partner and grandmother,

"They have been brilliant, but I can't understand how for the past three years I have been walking around on tip-toes and the next thing I have had my leg chopped off. I miss being able to do things on my own."

The 24-year-old also said that there was a mental health team looking after her, though she is still suffering from depression as she can't have the lifestyle that she had prior to her infection.

She said that she noticed the blister in January 2021 while wearing trainers, noticing it continue to grow as it became infected and started oozing pus over time.

After visiting hospitals near her and getting advice from experts, her foot never fully healed, which almost cost Charlie her life in 2022.

She was suffering with sepsis due to a blocked artery, saying that she was so desperate to find a solution that her grandmother paid £110 for a 10-minute consultation with a private doctor, but the Hull-based woman was still left with no answer.

Despite all the hardship she is undergoing, Charlie is remaining positive over the prospect of living a normal life again some day.

"I have worked all my life," she began.

"I want to be able to go back to work and not be off on the sick. I am a girl that likes to be independent, and not in a wheelchair not being able to go out and do the things 24 year olds do."
