The well-known Carrigallen Mart was greeted with some unusual customers and hilarious banter when a group of hens crashed the weekly heifer sale stirring up plenty of good-humoured fun.

A video posted on the Carrigallen Facebook page shows the group of 10 or so messing with the auctioneer and having some banter with the attendees.

The spontaneous visit came in the middle of a night on the town for the hen party who were all decked out in the full hen outfits with no wellies in sight!

One mart goer managed to catch the group on video, sharing the footage to Twitter, alongside the caption: "Carrigallen Mart invaded by a flock of Hens last night".

The auctioneer, Micheál O'Reilly enjoyed the extraordinary visit and spoke to the Farmers Journal about the hilarious sale. He told the Journal that until then the sale was going as normal but ultimately the hen party’s visit may have increased trade.

He said “I was in the process of looking around to see the person in the box who was selling the cattle and was unexpectedly greeted by a bunch of ladies,”

"I didn't quite catch on at first who the girls were, but it was actually a neighbour. It was different and definitely a bit of craic. I kept on taking bids and seen that the hen party might have had a slight help on the trade.”

He added: “You'd see a lot of different things come through the mart doors, but you wouldn't expect a hen party.”

The post on the well-known Leitrim Marts Facebook page also garnered plenty of attention with someone commenting "I think I will start going to the mart", with another adding: "Class."

It was great to see the party having such fun and the Mart taking the visit in their stride and joining in the banter. The page captioned the viral video “Nothing distracts a good auctioneer, best wishes to Anne & her crazy hen party.”
