A driver who had an almost completely misted up windscreen with just a tiny 'porthole' to look through has been issued a fine and points.
The motorist had taken to the roads in Bonhill, West Dunbartonshire, without completely clearing the front window of their car.
Taking to social media to issue a warning to other road users that might adopt similar practices, Argyll & West Dunbartonshire Police wrote: "When its cold, wet and often icy, its important to take extra time to make sure your vehicle is safe for the journey ahead."
The force went on to add: "Argyll & West Dunbartonshire Police Division Road Policing Officers stopped this vehicle in Bonhill as the schools were coming out.
"The driver had not sufficiently demisted their windows placing children and other road users at risk. The driver was issued with 3 points and £100 fine."
Responding in the comments on the Facebook post, one person wrote: "Oh wow I have no words. Why would you even get in that and drive? Maybe go Pound Shop for anti-freeze way cheaper than fine and point on licence."
Another added: "Would loved to hear the driver argue their case suggesting that wee peephole was sufficient."
Someone else queried what it is the police want people to do with one pointing out that you'll 'also get a fine for leaving your engine idling to heat the car up', they continued: "Canny win."
Leaving your car to idle creates additional exhaust fumes, which could potentially land you with a fine if you’re caught idling for a considerable period. So, if you’re going to be parked or stationary for a while, switch your engine off.
According to suggestions, if it’s cold and you need to de-ice your windscreen, then avoid the temptation to idle your car here too – use a scraper instead.
The act comes under Rule 123 of the Highway Code, which states: "You must not leave a vehicle’s engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road."
According to Confused.com, the fine can be as high as £80 ($108) in certain areas of London where there are extra measures to cut emissions.
