Do any of you ever feel that other sports are getting too much attention lately, and maybe it’s time for other athletes to get a chance to show their abilities? As much as we have loved watching the rugby in France, maybe it’s time for those guys to step aside for a little bit (not that we’re brave enough to tell them that, I mean have you seen some of them?).
We have countless incredible athletes on these shores, in just about every sport imaginable. Even if esports isn’t the first thing you think of though, it’s only when you see first-hand the standards expected of them to compete that you realise they should be taken just as seriously.
As with every other sport, the best way to appreciate the game is to be there in person. Sure, you can watch the tournament at home, but then you’re missing out on experiencing the incredible atmosphere of being in a packed house full of fellow esports enthusiasts.
“But there aren’t any big esports tournaments in Ireland!” we hear you say. Well, that is where you are wrong my friends…
The A-Games: Ireland’s biggest VALORANT tournament
A short while ago, you may have seen something on our channels about a major esports tournament that’s set to take place in Dublin. It’s being organised by Virgin Media, who are providing Superfast Broadband, and the renowned WYLDE Academy, part owned by Olympic gold medallist and overall legend Usain Bolt.
It makes sense that Ireland’s biggest VALORANT tournament takes place in a venue that can handle an event of that magnitude. Do you think that, I don’t know, Ireland’s biggest sports bar might be a good option?
Well, the teams at Virgin Media and WYLDE Academy certainly think so! The grand final takes place in the Camden on Wednesday, October 18, with the top two teams who made it through the hotly contested qualifying rounds being pitted against each other in the ultimate showdown.
There will be a lot at stake on the night, so expect tensions to be high. The winning team will come away with a cash prize plus a coveted six-month contract with Cork’s WYLDE Academy, which is the opportunity of a lifetime for an esports athlete.
Given all that is at stake, the atmosphere is going to be off the charts. The live audience is going to play a huge part in making this an occasion to remember, given how rare something like this happens in Ireland, so being one of the people in attendance would be very special indeed.
Admission will be limited, and it’s for one night only so you can expect it to fill up fast. If you or your mates would be interested in seeing some of the most skilful gamers in Ireland come up against each other in a high stakes VALORANT tournament, then be sure to get there early.

Virgin Media are taking over Ireland’s biggest sports bar and turning it into Irelands biggest esports bar for one night only, to give the two finalists centre stage for the ultimate playoffs, with all play powered by Virgin Media and their superfast reliable broadband.
