James Snyder, the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child actor, has been fired from the Broadway show following a misconduct allegation from a co-star.
Snyder played the lead role of Harry Potter in the award-winning theatre production at the Lyric Theatre, New York, which continues 19 years on from JK Rowling’s final book installment.
Producers said in a statement on Sunday 23rd January that they made the decision to terminate the actor’s contract after launching an independent investigation into the complaint.
The Harry Potter and the Cursed Child team stated: “Out of respect for privacy – and to maintain the integrity of the investigation – we will make no further comment regarding the matter.”
They also said that the producers are “committed to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace” and are trying to “ensure the extremely talented team” at the production feel “safe, empowered, and fully supported”.
It is not yet clear who will be taking over Snydner's role in the show, while the website states that "the appearance of any particular cast member cannot be guaranteed in the unforeseen event of illness, contractual leave or other circumstances beyond our control."
The three-and-a-half hour show has been restaged for its tour in North America, and is said to "whisk you back to Hogwarts and beyond your imagination for a one-of-a-kind journey that's everything you hoped for - and more."
The production is also currently playing in London, Melbourne, San Francisco, Hamburg and is soon to be shown in Toronto and Tokyo.
Before Snyder’s lead role in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the actor has also featured in Broadway shows like If/Then and Cry Baby.
The actor is married, and has two children.
