Jeremy Clarkson has brushed off criticism he received for his tweet about the ongoing heatwave on Sunday, now claiming that people should just ‘drink more beer’.
Whilst it’s an enticing idea, it’s probably not exactly what the Met Office would suggest in their warnings.
With temperatures set to soar once again, it’s probably best to drink water – not beer – and just stay in the shade slathered in sun cream.

It all started after Clarkson tweeted about the weather in France, compared to the reaction in the UK.
He said: “It’s very hot in the south of France but so far as I know, there’s no DefCon 8 level 3 killer death heatwave warning in place.”
Of course, France is currently taking the heatwave very seriously and has evacuated thousands of people because of apocalyptic fires, but that seemed to pass Clarkson by.

Clarkson’s tweet didn’t exactly go down too well, and it was decried as ‘exceptionally stupid’ by one observer.
Another was even moved to call him an ‘utter womble’, whatever that is.
Never one to be denied the last word, Clarkson hit back at the criticism, telling everyone that he isn’t actually a climate denier, but he still seems to think that the reaction to the heatwave – which could see the record temperature for England broken today – has been too much.
Yesterday (18 July), he said: “I’ve spent my life working in extreme heat and we survived by having a beer under a tree.

“Climate change is real.
“Drink more beer.”
Obviously, this isn’t the contrition that some people wanted to hear.

One person responded: “Yeah let’s laugh about climate change.”
Clarkson hit back: “We should laugh about anything we want.
“Now go and sit under a tree and have a cold beer.”
Obviously, there are some real dangers presented by the heatwave, particularly to those who are old or vulnerable, as well as to pets and other animals.

Tracy Nicholls, chief executive of the College of Paramedics, warned: “This isn’t like a lovely hot day where we can put a bit of sunscreen on and go out and enjoy a swim or a meal outside.
“This is serious heat that could actually ultimately end in people’s deaths because it is so ferocious and we’re just not set up for that sort of heat in this country.”
So, make sure you are wearing a decent level of sunscreen if you have to go outside, but try to stay in the shade where you can, drink plenty of water, and don’t over-exert yourself.
The heatwave looks set to break by tomorrow, when temperatures will return to something resembling normality.
