Joel Dommett has revealed he once dated a woman whose photo was used by a catfish to lure him into webcam sex.
Dommett, now 37, was in his 20s when he struck up an online relationship with someone using a fake profile picture, and eventually ended up having sex over Skype with them.
However, once Dommett learned he’d been catfished, he sought out the real woman whose photos were being used to let her know. The two hit it off and ended up meeting up before embarking on a romantic relationship – what a bonkers world we live in.

Dommett spoke candidly about the situation during an appearance on Katherine Ryan’s new Amazon Prime Video series, Backstage with Katherine Ryan.
According to Metro, Dommett was about to appear in I’m A Celebrity back in 2016 when the catfish threatened to leak the footage of him engaging in online sex.
Dommett was blackmailed into sending money, however stood his ground and refused to pay up, instead releasing a statement on Facebook at the time, which was titled 'A Statement From Joel Dommett’s Penis'.

The message read in part: “Joel was Catfished a long time ago by somebody pretending to be someone else on the internet and was lured into Skype sex. That Skype sex session turned out to be entirely fake and has come back to bite Joel in the ass.
“It’s a genuinely horrific thing for another human being to do, to take advantage of what is private in someone's life and make it public for everyone to see.”
Speaking more recently to Ryan, Dommett explained: “They were going to release the tape and they asked me for money, and I was like ‘no’.”

He added: “We had Skype sex, but the Skype sex was weird. It turns out it was just a video, basically, of this person who looks similar to the person in the thing [...] it was like a porn star or something.”
The comedian – who has been married to Hannah Cooper since 2019 – explained that he then tracked down the woman whose photos were being used on Twitter.
“I messaged this girl, and I said, ‘Look, do you know someone else is using your photos?’ She replied, ‘Yeah, I know about it. They’ve been using them for the last like three years’.
“So I was like, ‘Look, this is gonna sound really mad, but do you want to meet up? Because we could get a photo together and then send it to the scammers, and be like, look, I found the real you’.”

Dommett said the pair ended up dating for around four months, but the woman eventually moved home to her native Russia – although they did have Skype sex.
“It was like full circle,” Dommett quipped. “I had Skype sex with the real person I wanted to in the end.”
LADbible has approached Dommett’s representative for comment.
