Landlord advertises converted balcony to rent for $300 a week in Sydney

Yeah, this is a strong 'no' from us.

If you have ever wanted to live in a tiny sliver of a space and pay AUD$300 (£172) for the privilege, now you can.

According to a wild advertisement on Facebook Marketplace, some lucky Sydney-based lad can be the king of his own castle.

Or balcony, at least.

Yep, that's right - it's not even a room, but a tarped-up balcony.

It also seems to be a poorly insulated one, by the look of things.

Despite barely being large enough to host the lone single bed squeezed in the corner, applicants must be male and provide their nationality before viewing the 'room'.

The 'room'.

But, as is indicative of Sydney's current housing crisis that has seen hundreds line around blocks to view rentals, the landlord told News Corp the ad has generated 'a lot of interest'.

"New, quiet and clean apartment. Next to World Square, only a five minutes walk to Town Hall Station, China Town, UTS, Paddy's Market, Coles and Woolworths," the ad reads.

“All bills included, fast NBN wifi and rice, basic cleaning stuff and cooking stuff [supplied]. Minimum stay four months.

"Prefer long term and less cook. $800 (£459) deposit and $200 (£114) bond key. Three weeks notice to move out."

The ad, shared to Sydney's Inner West Buy, Sell and Give Away Facebook page this week, also came with a list of odd questions for aspiring tenants.

'Will you bring your own furniture, big electronic, bike?' was one of them.

We can only assume that he was referring to a television when enquiring about 'big electronic', but your guess is honestly as good as ours.

Images of the balcony/room, show a small, enclosed, tiled area located in Haymarket’s Miramar on the edge of Sydney's CBD.

The ad in question.

The 38-storey high-rise boasts a gym, squash court, and indoor swimming pool, the latter of which was pictured in the bizarre listing.

The glass sliding doors leading into the actual apartment were photographed covered by blue curtains. For privacy, of course.

The listing also shows a small desk opposite the single bed, adorned with a television set. Or maybe 'small electronic', who knows.

The balcony room points to a larger crisis currently underway in Sydney, with one realtor telling news.com.au that a whopping 106 people turned up to one rental inspection just after the Christmas break.

Yikes.

Suddenly a balcony that has been hastily turned into a bedroom no longer looks like such a bad idea after all.
