Johnny Depp has avoided looking at Amber Heard for pretty much the entire defamation trial.
If you've been watching the trial, you will have noticed that while his ex-wife has given testimony, Depp has kept his gaze at the computer screen showing her testimony.

Despite her sitting right in front of him, he insists on watching her through the screen.
Now we finally know why.
As Heard testified yesterday (May 17), she was quizzed about how her ex-husband avoids her gaze.
Depp's lawyer, Camille Vasquez, asked Heard while she was on the stand: "You know why he won't look at you. He told you you would never see his eyes again."

It was revealed that Depp told her back in 2016 that he will never look at her again after she publicly accused him of domestic violence.
An audio recording was played at the trial where Depp could be heard saying: "I am nothing to you, and I will always be nothing to you. You will not see my eyes again."
Heard said in the recording that she just wanted a hug and didn't want to hurt him with the allegations.

Ms Vasquez asked Heard at the trial whether Depp has kept that promise he made six years ago.
She replied: "As far as I know, he cannot look at me."
While it appears Depp is holding onto his grudge, Heard wants to move on and let bygones be bygones.
"Unfortunately, all of this is real. Johnny and I lived this. We lived through this. I lived through this and I narrowly survived it but I survived it," she told the court.

She added: "I have a baby; I want to move on. I want Johnny to move on, too. I just want him to leave me alone."
Depp sued his ex-wife for defamation after she wrote in an op-ed for The Washington Post in 2018 that she was a survivor of domestic abuse.
She didn't name him in the article, however Depp believes the piece ruined his career and he's launched a $50 million lawsuit against her.
Heard has countersued for $100 million and has also claimed that her career has also suffered as a result of going public with the details of her marriage to Depp.

She claimed her role in the upcoming Aquaman 2 has been reduced and she's had scenes cut.
