Medicinal cannabis is changing the lives of many across the world, however it's a fairly complex system in Australia.
The federal government legalised the substance in 2016 for very specific medical circumstances, disorders and illnesses and there is a constant fight to expand the list to include more patients.
At the moment, doctors can prescribe medicinal cannabis for things like chronic non-cancer pain, anxiety, cancer-related symptoms, epilepsy and other neurological disorders.
According to NPS, there are currently more than 100 different cannabis products available to prescribe to patients in Australia and many of them are oils or capsules that contain the drug.
For a supplier to get the green light to sell medicinal cannabis in Australia, they have to first be approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
If they pass that big hurdle, then the Commonwealth and state governments work together on the national licensing scheme to get the product into the system.
Cannatrek is one of the few companies which has been granted a license to research, cultivate, manufacture and deliver medicinal cannabis to patients around the country.
They pride themselves on their 'seed to patient' mentality that allows them to keep a tight control of their product.
"We are redefining the medical cannabis industry in Australia," they write on their website.
"By connecting research, cultivation and green technology, we are aiming to be the most affordable cannabis producer in Australia.
"Our mission is simply to provide affordable care and, thanks to our innovative seed to patient model, we are doing just that."
Cannatrek also streamlines the whole medicinal cannabis process in Australia with Cannatrek Access.
This platform provides patients with education and awareness as well as a clear pathway to connect with independent doctors who specialise in plant-powered medicine.
