A man was found shot dead in his bed after his blind wife reported him missing saying she had not heard from him in more than a day.
William Robert Lang J, 76, was found dead in his bed with multiple gunshot wounds by officers from Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
His death has been ruled as a homicide but police say no suspects have been arrested as yet and enquiries are ongoing.
Officers were called out to the Louisiana property at 6pm on 29 December by Mr Lang’s wife - who police said is visually impaired.
She told cops she hadn’t heard from her husband since 3pm the following day ‘which was unusual’, upon arrival to the home officers noticed Mr Lang's vehicles were still parked outside.
In a statement the sheriff’s office said: “Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the complainant - a visually impaired lady that reported that she had not heard from her husband since Tuesday around 3pm which was unusual.
“She identified her husband as William Robert 'Bob' Lang Jr., 76, of Natchitoches, La.
“Deputies then began to ask the complainant, questions for an offense report and noticed that all of Mr. Lang’s vehicles were parked at the residence.
“The responding deputy observed a broken window glass on the residence and requested permission to enter the home to look for Mr. Lang.”
Once inside they headed to the area where they saw the broken glass and found Mr Lang dead after sustaining several gunshot wounds.
The statement went on: “Lang was pronounced dead at the scene by Natchitoches Parish Asst. Coroner Steven Clanton.
“The body has been transported for an autopsy.
“The cause of death has been ruled as a homicide.”
As of Friday, 31 December, police had made no arrests and were in the process of interviewing friends and family of the deceased as well as trawling the area for CCTV footage from homes and local businesses.
The police statement added: “Our investigators are working tirelessly in an effort to arrest the individual or individuals involved in the murder of Mr. Lang. We extend our sympathy to the Lang family.”
