There was a warrant out for his arrest for conspiracy to murder.
Police had previously said Potter was 'known to disguise himself using hair colour, wigs and fat suits'.
Back in 2019, cops shared pictures of supplies and handwritten notes believed to have belonged to Potter which were discovered at a Queensland campsite in 2010, a few months after he disappeared.

In Potter's notes, he speaks about the need for 'theatrical' disguises to evade capture, including fat suits.
He also threatened to kill anyone who recognised him.
The cops finally caught up with the 64-year-old after finding him in Far North Queensland.
A statement from Queensland Police said: "Acting on information received, Tablelands Detectives, uniformed police and the Cairns Dog Squad attended an Ascham Street residence at approximately 8.45am where 64-year-old Graham Gene Potter was located and taken into custody.

"It is alleged Mr Potter failed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court in February 2010 on charges of conspiracy to murder.
"Tablelands Detectives have had previous information regarding sightings of Mr Potter in the Tablelands area, where it is alleged he evaded police in Tully in 2010.
"Multiple law enforcement bodies throughout Australia have been attempting to locate him for the last 12 years.

"Detectives from Victoria will travel to the Far North, to seek Mr Potter’s extradition."
He will appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court on Tuesday (22 February).
Queensland Police have released footage of the moment they took the 64-year-old into custody.
An officer can be heard yelling at Potter to remain where he was.

“This is the police. Do not move,” he said. “Put your hands where I can see them. Turn and face the wall. Hands where I can see them.
According to News Corp, Potter disappeared in 2010 when he was meant to appear in a Melbourne court after he was charged with plotting to kill two people. The news outlet described him as 'Australia's most wanted man'.
He was also accused of being involved in a $440 million (£323m) ecstasy haul.
Potter is thought to have had various aliases and had a habit of befriending elderly women so he could stay in their homes.
While he was on the run, he was pulled over by police for a routine traffic stop and still managed to get away without being arrested.
Now though, his luck has finally run out.
