Martin Lewis has donated £50,000 of his own cash to a money advice service after taking part in a ‘bloody depressing’ phone-in on ITV.
The Money Saving Expert founder was on This Morning on Thursday where he took calls from viewers who were concerned about their rising bills.
After his appearance on the show, he took to Twitter to say: "Bloody depressing @thismorning phone-in again. So many people at crisis point regarding energy bills - including those with v high usage due to disabilities (home ventilators, oxygen concentrators, elec wheelchairs etc).

“I am nearly OUT OF TOOLS to help. Govt must intervene."
In response to his post, Leeds-based Money Buddies - a service that offers free help and advice for those with money problems - wrote: "We are in the same boat Martin.
"We saw twice as many people than we expected to see in February, same again in March, and we have a huge waiting list of people desperate to see us who are vulnerable. We are at breaking point... the state must intervene now…"

Replying to the post, Lewis said: "If I were to donate £50,000 today would you be able to get things in place to relieve pressure at speed?"
Money Buddies told Lewis is would be a very big help, to which he wrote: "Done. Money is ready to go."
He then jokingly added: "I'm normally against impulse spending - but I'll let myself off this one ;)"

Social media users have heaped praise on Lewis for his generosity, one person wrote: “Martin you continue to astound me. "You've made a great success of your career and still spend all your time helping others. What a gesture.”
