McDonald's explained why it took one of its most beloved breakfast items off the menu

Since the news was announced that McDonald's was binning off two of its most popular items from its menu, the world has been a darker place.

The beloved breakfast bagel was ruthlessly pulled just before the pandemic hit, with the fast-food giant confirming that neither it nor the wraps would be available again.

At the time, many of us were a mixture of angry, confused and just plain sad.

Some of us have remained so ever since, with people pleading with Maccies to bring them back, particularly the bagel and all its iterations - the egg and cheese, the bacon, egg and cheese bagel, and the steak, egg and cheese.

One person said: "McDonald’s needs to bring back bagel breakfast sandwiches."

Echoing the sorrow, another chipped in: "McDonald’s breakfast been goated. Wish they’d bring back the bagel iykyk."

"Why can’t McDonald’s just give us back the things we ask for, snack wraps and bagel breakfast sandwiches?" asked a third.

While another added: "I want a sausage egg and cheese bagel from McDonald’s so bad. I had a dream about one Lmao."

Someone even started a petition, demanding that they make a return.

And, unsurprisingly, it's proven to be pretty popular, with 1,569 customers putting their names to it.

The petition reads: "It’s been forever and we are sitting here waiting for it to come back but yet are always told they don’t think it is coming back!!

"Well we want them back!! It was the best meals on the menu for breakfast!! So please sign and share and show them that we want these items back on the menu!"

Well, if you're one of the thousands out there who are wondering what in God's name happened to the delicious breakfast treats, McDonald's did kind of explain their reasoning at the time.

Maccies explained why it got rid of the breakfast bagel and wraps.

In a post to its Facebook page, Maccies said: "It is with love and deep respect for one another that we announce that we are parting ways with Breakfast Bagels & Breakfast Wraps.

"Despite speculation and following a trial separation period, Breakfast Bagels and Breakfast Wraps will not be returning to the menu. We adore each other deeply but our love for the iconic McMuffin was simply too hard to ignore."

They went on to say: "We want our fans to know this is a mutual decision, to the extent that a bagel can make its own decision.

"Thank you to everyone who has supported our union. As for the rumours that there will be a new breakfast bae on the scene later this year... no comment.

"But it's now time to say, 'that's a wrap'. And bagel."

All we can do now is pray that they hear our pleas and see sense.
