A mum was stunned to find out that she accidentally slow-cooked some of the £350 she'd been saving.

There's having a bad day and then there's having a stewed £20 note melt into your slow cooker.

Unlikely as it sounds, that's exactly what happened to Stacey Goodwin when she was given an envelope stuffed full of cash to help pay for her mother-in-law's funeral — yep, the story just gets more chaotic from here on out.

So, Stacey was given the cash to help cover fees and left it on the kitchen counter when she heard an unexpected knock at the door - which turned out to be the funeral director.

Not knowing what to do with the extra cash, the florist shoved the envelope into the nearest hiding spot, which happened to be the slow cooker.

When the guest left, she took the envelope out and dropped it at the funeral home — seems okay so far, right?

What she didn't realise was that a £20 note had escaped and would slowly be cooked into her family's meals for the next few days.

Two weeks after the cash escape, Stacey discovered the charred remains of the £20.

The note was impressively still pretty much intact.

Yep, the slow-cooked note went through chicken dinners and washes, but it still remained crispy right at the bottom.

She said that the crispy note looked just like Madge, the chronically sunburned character in Benidorm.

The Leicestershire-based mum explained: "When you see Madge on the show you can see she's been in the sun too much, her skin is orange and wrinkled, that's what the note reminded me of.

"I didn't say anything to start with - I just took the note in a bowl in the living room to my partner and slapped a slice of bread and butter on the side. He was just laughing."

The couple found the whole thing pretty funny, with Stacey adding: "It was hilarious, who slow-cooks money and who doesn't notice that there's £20 missing?"

"It was a light-hearted moment in quite a dark time for us, it was quite funny."

Stacey pretended to serve the note up to her partner for a laugh.

Stacey went on to add that her partner's mum would've loved the whole thing.

Still, the florist is hoping she might be able to spend the burnt note: "I've googled whether you can spend money if you've slow-cooked it.

"I've tried to word it in all different combinations, it didn't say and I haven't tried to spend it yet.

"I wouldn't have cooked a meal if I knew that £20 was in there, I would have gone straight for a takeaway."

We're not sure what shop would take a crispy note, but it's worth a shot!
