A mother who opted to film her six-month-old baby eating a 'bloody' steak has responded to critics after dividing opinion on TikTok. Watch the viral clip below:

Katie Harley, 23 (@mrskatyharley) from South Carolina took the internet by storm after sharing a clip of her baby girl Eliza munching into, what looked like, a medium rare steak.

The video has caused some controversy amongst users after racking up over 215,000 views.

Some argued that it's 'dangerous' for a baby that young to be eating a medium rare streak, while others defended the 23-year-old by also admitting they've done the same thing.

Katie told Femail: "'I never in a million years would think that a video of my daughter eating would be so controversial.

"But I’m thankful we’re opening up a conversation about how we feed our children and the science behind it."

After uploading a seconds video, she seemingly looked to be taking aim at the critics by captioning: "People loooove giving parenting advice to people who didn’t ask."

One user wrote: "I just asked Google and it said no rare or medium rare meat for babies or young toddlers.

"Their stomachs can't handle the potential bacteria."

Another commented: "Too red for me, I won't even eat it like that.

"Steak is so easy to choke on.

"My grown niece chocked on it not long ago, so scary."

A third added: "That's not even cooked."

"My baby was underweight at 4 months old and refused baby food and her doctor told me to try regular food."

According to The Baby Centre website, children can be given meat from six-months-old.

"You may prefer to start with soft, cooked poultry, such as chicken. But you can also introduce red meats, such as pork, beef or lamb.

"Always take care to cook any meat thoroughly, until the juices run clear, and remove any bones," the website reads.
