Reddit users have been left shocked to discover the price of honey in Holland & Barrett – and you'll never guess how much a jar will set you back.
One would assume that your average jar of honey would never cost more than a fiver, at the very most.
However, Manuka honey, a type of honey native to New Zealand, is known to cost considerably more.

The special substance is said to provide radical health benefits, such as treating wounds, healing infections and easing joint pain.
Nevertheless, if you’re looking to purchase a jar of Manuka Lab’s finest ‘Manuka Honey’ from Holland & Barrett, you're looking at paying a whopping £179.99.
Yes, you read that right.

On Holland & Barrett’s website, the honey is described as: “Harvested from the pristine East Cape region of New Zealand.
"Our Lucious and intensely creamy Manuka is lovingly added to each jar and fully traceable back to hive.”
Naturally, Reddit users were left questioning the obscene price, with many sharing their utter disbelief.
“It does have over 700 dietary methylglyoxal though,” one person joked. “I’m sure we’ve all been in a place where we’ve needed a little more dietary methylglyoxal.”

A second added: “I hope the bees get paid a cut of the that.”
In an attempt to inform the general public, one individual explained: “The market is absolutely flooded with fake Manuka honey, it's almost certain that anything labelled as Manuka you might pick up in a supermarket will have essentially none of the genuine stuff in.”
Who knew honey could be so controversial...

A former Holland & Barrett employee even dished the dirt on what goes on behind the scenes, as they said: “[I] Worked at H&B, they're just empty pots that people bring to the counter and we go through the back where we keep the real ones with security tags.”
Nevertheless, three five-star reviews on the Holland & Barrett website would suggest the hefty price tag is in fact worth it.
One person wrote: “A small amount taken daily is very effective. I have boosted my energy levels in a couple of weeks, I’m 88 yrs. Old."
Another person said: “I love this honey and I think it really works as a calming balm for sore throats.”

I’m sure a good old-fashioned throat lozenge would also do the job.
