Police have a chilling theory about man who got stuck behind a fridge for 10 years

Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada was discovered behind the freezer a decade after he was reported missing

Police have revealed a chilling theory about a man who was trapped behind a freezer at his place of work for 10 years.

Back in 2019, a team of workers were removing shelves and freezers from a closed down shop in Iowa, US.

Although the No Frills supermarket had been shut for around three years at this point, the team had set to work finally clearing out the property, when they came across a human body wedged behind one of the freezers in the store.

After DNA testing was carried out, the body was found to be Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada, who had gone missing in 2009.

It is believed that the 25-year-old had become trapped behind the fridge, with investigators explaining they did not believe any foul play had taken place.

Until 2019, Larry's family had no idea what had happened to him, after he went missing 10 years prior.

After Larry's body was found, many people were understandably horrified over how he wasn't detected sooner.

It's believed he'd been dead in the store for seven years, while it was still open, and a further three after it closed down for good.

Assuming that Larry would have called for help, many wondered why his cries went unheard, considering people would have been in and out of the shop.

But police have since put forward one theory, explaining that any of Larry's attempts would probably have been drowned out by the noise of the 12-foot tall fridge.

According to the BBC, Sergeant Brandon Danielson has previously said that noise from the fridges probably muffled any cries.

A horrifying simulation of what happened to Larry reveals what it could have been like for him during that time.

"You don't hear about these types of cases, [like] people found in walls, especially in this area," Danielson - who had been working on the missing persons case back in 2009 - told KETV.

"We have missing persons all the time, but this is just unique.

"The mother had an idea that he has never left 'No Frills'.

"I don't know how she came up with that idea, but [his parents] were pretty upset."

Larry was last seen around Thanksgiving in 2009. His relatives reported him missing the day after, saying he left his parents' house barefoot and hallucinating during a blizzard.

The clothing on the body matched the description given at the time of his disappearance.
