The Queen is set to become the proud owner of her first ever pub just a stone’s throw from her home in Norfolk.
The Sandringham estate, which is privately owned by the Queen, is looking to open a new village pub and is currently looking to take on a landlord.
Land agents Landles are in the process of finding a tenant for an empty building at West Norton. The property had previously been used as a social club, but is hoping to become a ‘destination public house’.

The property will be leased out to the tenant, but its freehold will continue belonging to the Queen – making it the first pub she’s ever owned.
The right candidate to take on the pub will need to provide an impressive track record of previous industry experience as well as a business plan, financial references and a plan to show how they will boost ‘community engagement’.
Landles said the property is ‘a rare opportunity for the right operator to develop a new destination public house with restaurant and letting room potential, in an Edwardian former club premises full of character and occupying an elevated position with westerly aspects'.

It added: "West Newton is a delightful village located in north west Norfolk on the Royal Sandringham Estate situated about six miles north of King’s Lynn, 12 miles from Burnham Market and Holkham just further to the north, with the nationally-known Sandringham Country Park on the doorstep.
“A particular feature of the position is the elevated nature of the building with the land sloping off to the southwest offering tremendous panoramic views over the adjacent farmland and the wide blue skies of north west Norfolk.”
The 4,350 sq ft building was the home of the Sandringham Club, which was opened in 1884 by the Queen's great grandfather King Edward VII.

But the club closed down in 2020 ‘due to the effects of the pandemic and the decline in membership’.
The would-be pub is situated less than a mile from the Queen’s Sandringham home, and is opposite the church where the Queen attends services.
The plans for the pub are among several to help modernise Sandringham and increase its commercial potential.

The plans have been revealed as celebrations start for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this week.
A special programme of events have been planned to mark the Queen’s 70 years on the throne, including the Trooping the Colour on Thursday, June 2.
