Some people may claim that the most dramatic scenes in movie history involve big explosions and high speed chases, but let me tell you that those people are wrong. From the Wayans brothers cleaning up to Run DMC in White Chicks to the finger-clicking classic that is West Side Story, they are the kind of scenes that make you want to get up off your seat and challenge anyone daring enough to Step Up (another classic of the genre).
It can be difficult to find the right way to channel that energy. That is, until now.
Red Bull Dance Your Style
Red Bull Dance Your Style is coming to Dublin on Saturday, 30 September, and promises to bring 16 of the best dancers on these shores up against each other in a series of jaw-dropping 1-v-1 dance offs.
You can find out more about the competing dancers here and here. These dancers are the best of the best, and it will only take about 3-4 seconds of watching them to make you realise that as well.
This competition is already a big deal all over the world, and this is the first time it’s coming to Ireland. All styles of dance are encouraged at Red Bull Dance Your Style, with the overall winner going on to represent Ireland in the world final in Frankfurt, battling it out against 40 other countries to claim the biggest prize of all!
It’s taking place in Dundrum Town Centre’s Pembroke Square, and promises to be a special event not to be missed. One thing you can be sure to expect (other than some incredible dance moves, that is) is a classic street party vibe that you would expect of an old school dance off.
We’re talking a live DJ playing a wide range of different beats to keep dancers on their toes, as well as a big stage where spectators can see every second of the action.
Best of all, the twist is that the people watching on will ultimately be the judges of who should be crowned champion. This isn’t an episode of Strictly Come Dancing, the best judges are the people watching on and picking up the energy, passion and style of the people competing!
It’s going to be a serious test of the dancers’ skillsets, as they won’t know what kind of music the DJ is going to start spinning next. Be it old school hip-hop, classic rock, pop or funk, they’ll need to be able to mix up their own personal style to not only match the beat being played but also do it better than the other dancer!
Basically, this is something you won’t want to miss. It’s not every day you get the opportunity to witness something like this in person rather than in a movie, so be sure to make your way to Dundrum Town Centre on 30 September for 1pm.
