In a huge blow to the Prime Minister, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak has resigned.
The move is so significant as Sunak has stayed loyal to Boris Johnson when many others have not, and it may now signal the end of his premiership.

The Whip has an important role in government as they are responsible for ensuring that their party members vote, and vote the way their party wants them to.
It has now publicly come to light that Chris Pincher has been accused of sexual misconduct.
Boris Johnson initially claimed that when he appointed Pincher, he had not known about the allegations against him. However, Number 10 have since confirmed that the Prime Minister was, in fact, aware of the reports.
It is this most recent political development which has led to Sunak stepping down.
What has Rishi Sunak Said?
In his resignation letter, Rishi Sunak stated that ‘the public rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously’ before saying: ‘I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning.’

By stepping down now, many are wondering whether this is his bid to make himself a contender for the top job.
By making a stand against the Prime Minister’s behaviour, he is placing himself in a position whereby he may later be able to challenge him, presenting himself as a more respectable candidate for the role.
