Mick Schumacher has been left needing medical care after suffering a horrific crash during qualifying for Formula One's Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia.
Haas, who Schumacher races for, has confirmed the driver is 'physically fine' following the high speed collision and he has been taken to hospital for precautionary checks and scans.
The driver, son of F1 legend Michael Schumacher, was approaching Turn 12 when his car span off the curb and crashed into a concrete barrier at around 170mph. Qualifying was immediately paused as Schumacher remained in the cockpit of the car until an ambulance came to remove him.
He was then taken to the nearby medical centre before being sent on to the hospital for precautionary scans.
Haas team principal Guenther Steiner said: "I didn't speak with him directly; he's spoken to his mum. I spoke with his mum a few times and kept her updated.
"He has no injuries which you can see, they just wanted to check on him and do some scans to see that there's no damage from the impact and the forces.
"It seems like he's gone on the curb and just lost the car. We just lost all the data immediately on the impact, we had no contact with him after the contact."
The 23-year-old had been aiming to advance to the final Top 10 shootout for the first time in his 24th F1 Grand Prix.
His crash provoked great concern from fans, who were taken aback by how severe the crash looked.
The Haas driver also suffered a crash at the 2021 Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia when he collided with the wall at Turn 23. Fortunately, he escaped without injury.
