Inside the 2024 Paris Olympic Village where there’s free Costa Coffee, hairdressers and tiki bars

What exactly do athletes have to enjoy during their down time?

Ordinary folk are being given a glimpse to life inside the 2024 Paris Olympic Village as athletes post numerous videos of what there is to entertain them during downtime - and it looks amazing.

For most of the 15,000-plus competitors at the 2024 Games, their time competing is only for a fraction of the two-and-a-half-week long programme of events.

And we're talking a day or two max for thousands of them.

That means there's a hell of a lot of time during this period in which they're not competing against their peers.

And even if you're only taking to your discipline in the latter stages of the Olympics, there's plenty of time to do whatever you want in the build-up, with training only taking up a short period of people's days.

Enter the world of the Olympic Village, where thousands of athletes will be living, sleeping and getting to know each other very, very well.

From a broad point of view, it looks akin to a gated community with tower blocks of apartments. Flags can be seen draped from the buildings of each respective team, so there's very little chance of forgetting which building you'll be calling home for the duration.

And over on TikTok, athletes have been documenting their first experiences in the village and showcasing what there is to enjoy.

Among them is Irish boxer Jennifer Lehane, who has already made history as the first female bantamweight boxer from her country to qualify for an Olympics.

Posting on to the social media platform, Jennifer said: "Things in the Olympic Village that just make sense."

Starting things off is a video is a classic French bakery. We're talking baguettes, pain au chocolats, croissants. What more could you want?

Next up was a games room filled to the brim with things for athletes to beat each other, including table football, basketball, pinball machines, arcade machines, and air hockey tables.

The games also continue outside with boules courts available for athletes to keep the competitive spirit going at all times.

And for those needing a pick me up, athletes have their very own Costa Coffee shop where everything is free at the point of consumption - what a perk.

And back in the Irish dorms, there is even slushie machines to enjoy at their pleasure.

For those looking to wind down, there is a 'mindfulness zone' with ambient lighting; perfect for some R&R before or after competition.

And for those wanting to look their best in front of the world's cameras, there is a hair salon and barbers so you can get that cut perfect the day before comp.

At night time, there's also a DJ and tiki bar.

It's a teetotal venue, with Corona Zero available to athletes heading over that way. Other little perks include a photo booth for some memories with friends, new and old.

However, one theme took over for many commenters - and that was the costs.

One person asked: "I'm curious, what do / don't you pay for?"

It isn't immediately clear, but the photo booths are definitely a paid-for perk at €3 a go. We'd also be shocked if the alcohol-free beer was a freebie.

While others commented: "The Olympic Village looks like an adult summer camp."

Another said: "I just want to be a low world class athlete or an alternate just so I can stay in the Olympic Village and get free stuff."

You and me both.
