England's win on penalties over Switzerland at Euro 2024 has sent the Three Lions though to the semi finals, where they'll face the Netherlands.
It's the third time in Gareth Southgate's four tournaments as England manager that he's reached such a stage, and the last time around at the Euros it ended up leading to a final.
Performances at Euro 2024 have left something to be desired, with one of the highlights up until penalties being Jude Bellingham's number coming up on the substitute board and him knowing it was a mistake, but in game number 100 as England manager Southgate saw his side level the score against the Swiss before going on to win a penalty shoot-out.

With Jordan Pickford saving the first Swiss penalty from Manuel Akanji (with some help from his trusty water bottle cheat sheet) and all five of England's penalty takers scoring their spot kicks it sent the Three Lions through.
There were some spectacular spot kicks from the England players, including a daring penalty from Ivan Toney where he didn't even look at the ball and just stared down Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold had the unenviable task of taking the fifth penalty, knowing that if he succeeded England would go through and if his effort was saved the lottery would continue.

Naturally his penalty caused some raucous celebrations, and the man himself was later seen chatting pitch-side.
However, what he's said has left some England fans wondering what he was talking about.
In pitch-side footage, Alexander-Arnold was seen doing that classic footballer's move of talking with his hand over his mouth to mask what he was saying, but the defender could clearly be heard saying 'he didn't want to take one'.
Naturally, this has left a lot of England fans guessing about the identity of the player who didn't want to step up to the spot.

Many thought Trent was 'definitely referring to Phil Foden here', with the Manchester City forward substituted off mere minutes before the shoot-out, while others thought he was 'talking about Rice not wanting to take one'.

Plenty had no idea who he was referring to but desperately wanted to know, saying 'I wonder who he's talking about' and asking Trent to 'let the people know'.
On the other hand, can you imagine the pressure that would be involved in taking a penalty under such circumstances?
Every England player scored theirs and Pickford saved a Swiss penalty, so there were no culprits for fans and press to pick out this time.
However, when a game comes down to just one moment, a player must surely be acutely aware that if things go wrong they could end up being the poster boy for England's defeat and exit from Euro 2024.

Plenty of players have spoken about the massive psychological pressure involved with taking a penalty from the spot-kick itself to the agonisingly long walk up to the ball itself.
When you know how much is riding on your ability to kick a ball past another person and into the net that walk up must feel a mile long.
Fortunately, every England player scored and they're now just a couple of games away from potentially winning Euro 2024.
