England fan has bizarre reaction after being told Bellingham has scored just as he left the ground

England fan has bizarre reaction after being told Bellingham has scored just as he left the ground

The lad realised he'd missed a once-in-a-lifetime goal

It was a tense game yesterday (30 June) guys, and it’s OK if you were peeping over your pillow as you awaited the inevitable defeat.

With the way that the Three Lions have been playing across the Euro 2024 games, it’s perfectly normal to have been sceptical.

The team have performed underwhelmingly for the most part - but last night?

Magic.

Jude Bellingham's last-minute equaliser took England into extra time which gave Harry Kane enough time to get a quick one in the net to secure a win against Slovakia.

We’re now in the quarterfinals and it seems hope has been - somewhat - restored.

But while many were watching the match in the stands at the Arena AufSchalke in Germany worried about whether it’s still coming home, others decided to dip early.

What a mistake that was.

A fan who did just that was caught leaving right before Bellingham scored and was cornered by Sky News who informed him that England had just bagged an equaliser.

However, the fan had a rather bizarre reaction to the news.

Whether it was the shock of missing out or realising he’d let down his favourite player, the lad groaned after hearing Bellingham’s name, before turning around and pointing to the back of his England shirt.

It read (you guessed it) Bellingham.

He’d only gone and missed a once-in-a-lifetime goal.

Someone has since posted the clip to X and it should be a cautionary tale for anyone wanting to leave a game early.

Many people in the comments agreed and believed the lad brought it on himself, with one writing: “That's why you should never leave a game early.”

Another said: “Why would they leave early? Not like they had to beat the traffic."

And a third commented: “Never leave a game early. One of the most simple rules of football fandom - even if your side is 10-0 down. They got what they deserved.”

One person rubbed salt in the wound by adding: “Imagine being a Bellingham fan and missing his greatest goal ever because you left early.”

However, others shared their sympathies for the fan as they wrote: "Feel bad for the kid..."

While someone else joked: "Tbf the way they have been playing, I would have left a week ago."

It was only the other day that criticism for Gareth Southgate and his team was rife after fans were enraged over his football strategy this far.

But in the end… it all came to this one moment.

Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart explained that people’s anger at Bellingham before this goal was obvious and that it’s a lot of pressure for the team.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “You can see the anger, you can see the frustration. Jude Bellingham knows people have been saying things about him and for the first time they have not been nice things. What a goal.”

Hart added: “It’s a combination of a lot of things. Playing for England is an enjoyable feeling but it’s also a lot of pressure. You hear people talk a lot of rubbish. It’s nice when you can deliver and give them a little bit back.

“It’s very difficult when you talk in press conferences and interviews to talk as openly as footballers want to because they’re always judged… Having to listen to all the rubbish, feeling like you have let a nation of people down. In one kick of the ball, everything can change.”

England will now face Switzerland in the quarter-final on 6 July at 5pm UK time.
