Man slammed after betting £25,000 on Netherlands to win against England insisting 'it's not coming home'

Poor Julian's hefty bet backfired when the Three Lions stormed to a 2-1 victory against the Netherlands

I'm all for putting your money where your mouth is - as long as you don't mind eating your words.

This bloke is still sticking to his guns though, despite getting a load of stick on social media after placing a £25,000 bet on Netherlands to qualify for the Euro 2024 finals, while telling England fans: "It's not coming home."

Well, unfortunately for Julian - who goes by @JulianMKD on X - the Three Lions had other ideas and managed to secure a 2-1 win against the Dutch side to secure their place in the last chance saloon on Sunday (14 July) against Spain.

The gambler often shares the details of the high-stakes bets he is placing and he's put quite a lot of money down so far during the tournament, but it's the latest post he shared which has really got people talking.

That's because he put a whopping £25,000 on the line - which he kindly reminded us is a 'yearly salary' for some people - on Netherlands to qualify for the finals over England.

In a post on X, Julian - who claims to have 'became a millionaire at the age of 23' - wrote: "£25,000 on Netherlands to qualify to win £27,500. Certain peoples yearly salary. It’s all [sic] good cause I made over 30k yesterday alone.

"It’s not coming home. I’ll give 1 person that likes this tweet £1,500 cash if I win."

You may be thinking this sounds like a typical gambling trap that we often see on social media, but Julian did provide proof that he had placed the bet - while also addressing sceptics who pointed out there was 'no comma on the stake'.

Julian responded saying: "That’s how it is on bet365 lol. Go deposit 4 figures and above and see for yourself."

He initially shared the tweet detailing the wager just before 2pm on Wednesday (10 July), but you can bet your bottom dollar that England fans returned to his page after the win this evening to rub it in a little.

One said: " Lost some cabbage on this tournament mate."

Another laughed: "That was unfortunate."

A third wrote: "The amount of money you’ve lost on England to lose."

A fourth chimed in: "Why do you hate England so much mate?"

While a fifth commented: "Dunno why this has come up on my feed but it’s LOLS."

Despite him betting on the wrong horse - or team, in this case - Julian insisted that £25,000 is barely a drop in the ocean for him, seen as though he's a 'millionaire' who claims he can 'make you rich for free', according to his bio on X.

In a follow up post while it was still all to play for, the bloke said: "Guess what happens if I lose my 25k bet?

"I’ll still be richer than every single one of you. Don’t forget to set your alarms for tomorrow morning. You gotta be in on time or you’ll get fired."

Touché, I guess.

He then added that the 'show goes on' - and said that '50 racks getting slapped on Spain' for Sunday's game.

This guy just really doesn't want it to come home, does he?
