A Surrey man who managed an almost impossible feat, filming a shark attack, is still haunted by the experience.
In 2018, Dan White completed his diving certificate in Egypt. When in the water with his diving group, Dan noticed a whitetip shark swimming over to them.

While most people would freak out if they ever got to see the apex predator up close, Dan remained calm as he'd encountered three sharks the previous day 'with no trouble at all'.
The diver then intended to record the animal as he thought it was a 'cool encounter'.
The shark was quiet at first but things changed when the group was joined by several German divers.

Possibly upset by the number of people in its proximity and scared by one of the divers' bubbles, as Dan later recounted, the shark changed his behaviour.
"As I was filming I noticed that one of the outlet diver's bubbles spooked the shark and it turned to investigate," he told Tracking Sharks in 2018.
The video captured by Dan shows the shark makes its way to the divers' level and swimming towards them. Once closer, the animal proceeds to attack one of the divers, biting into his leg.
"It bit into the diver's leg, latched on, thrashed around and ended up going over almost like a cartwheel," Dan told the BBC's Why Sharks Attack.

"It was crazy, it wouldn't let go for what felt like forever. It ended up tearing his calf muscle completely off his leg," he added.
The shark didn't only rip to shreds the diver's calf muscle, but it also bit down to the bone.
"There was a big plume of blood in the water. Another diver started screaming you could hear her scream - a shriek noise in your ear," Dan continued.

"It's horrifying to listen to."
Despite the group being 10 metres below the surface of the water, you can hear the haunting scream in the video.
After the shark attack, the man was helped up the surface, where first responders administered pain medication and applied a tourniquet to the man’s leg, who was then rushed to the shore and taken to the hospital. Miraculously, his leg didn't need to be amputated.
Upon seeing the video, YouTube users were quick to express their shock in the comments section, with one person writing: "Very scary footage."

Another added: "Wow, absolutely terrifying."
While a third penned: "The most chilling part of this is still being able to hear the screaming under water."
