Ring doorbell customers are threatening not to renew their subscription due to a 'unjustifiable' price rise, and are urging people not to buy them
With an easy installation method at a previously affordable price, Ring doorbells have been a popular security option over the past few years.

All you have to do is charge the battery, connect the camera to the internet via the app and install it next to your front door.
This allows you to keep an eye on any potential criminal activity on your property.
Ring cameras have also been known to capture footage of alleged big cats, 'phantom farters' and drunken family members.
As long as you've got your phone on you, customers will be able to see what's going on at their home.

But in order to record the footage - which is useful if someone does try to break into your home, for example - you have to pay a monthly fee.
And now, users of the portable outdoor camera have been informed via email that the smart doorbell company would be increasing the price of its plan.
Ring informed its UK customers on their Protect Basic Plan - who were previously paying £34.99 per year, or £3.49 a month - that they would be charged around £15 more if they're an annual subscriber, or £18 more if they pay monthly.

Their bill will rise to a whopping £49.99 per year, or £4.99 a month.
This means that some customers will pay 100 percent more than they did back in March 2022, according to a report by Sky News.
A spokesperson from the Amazon-owned company told LADbible: "Since Ring launched its Protect Basic Plan in 2015, we've regularly found ways to enhance the plan to give our customers more value.

"As we continue to invest in the services we offer, we are updating our Protect Basic plan pricing. Starting 11 March 2024, Ring Protect Basic will increase to £4.99/month.
"We believe that Ring Protect offers some of the best value in the industry."
Some customers have slammed the price increase and taking to X (Twitter), one person wrote: "@ring your price increase is unjustifiable during a cost of living crisis!!! Thing is you know people will pay it!
"What will it be next year? £10 a month - was only £2 when I joined 3 or 4 years ago!!!!"

Another added: "To anyone thinking of buying @ring_uk. The Ring Protect annual price:
2022 £24.99
2023 £34.99
2024 £49.99
They know exactly what they’re doing as the doorbell is effectively useless without the plan. Very disappointing."
And someone else said: "I’ll be getting rid of the three cameras and doorbell I have, out of principle.
"It’s a shame we can’t all pull together as a society & boycott all of these 'price hikes' & show we’re not here to be taken the p**s out of."
While a fourth agreed: "Ring doorbell protection plan going up £15. Nope won’t be renewing mine. Utter daylight robbery!"
Meanwhile, a fifth said: "To anyone thinking of buying @ring_uk The Ring Protect annual price: 2022 £24.99, 2023 £34.99, 2024 £49.99.
"They know exactly what they’re doing as the doorbell is effectively useless without the plan. Very disappointing. #homesecurity #ringdoorbell #CostOfLivingCrisis."
So, it looks like you'll have to cough up almost fifty quid a year if you want footage of actual daylight robbers from now on.
