A therapist has explained that if you're watching too many adult films, you could actually be causing lasting damage to how you view the deed.

Luckily, there is a way to reset your brain after watching too much porn. Find out how below:

The whole thing makes a lot of sense, really.

If you see performative, seemingly brilliant sex too much, sex out in the real world could seem disappointing, and this might have a negative effect on your performance and general self-image.

Paul Sheppard, a self-described mindset coach and anxiety specialist, went viral on TikTok when he broke down what happens to the brain if a person watches too much porn.

He explained: "Here are some ways porn can f*** up your brain. And also f*** up your life.

"Too much porn can mean that your brain begins to rewire itself so that you prefer porn instead of having sex with a real person.

"Too much porn use has been linked to performance anxiety, erectile dysfunction, sexual inadequacy and also body image negativity."

He explained why porn is so addictive too and revealed why it is a stimulant.

"Porn is a super stimulant," the anxiety coach said, "in other words it boosts your dopamine levels unnaturally high. This makes it extremely addictive for some people.

"It also makes other things around you much less pleasurable because the only way you can get that really good feeling is to go back to porn."

You can rewire your brain if porn is having a negative effect on you.

But don't panic if you've been watching too much porn, as Paul has also shared his tips on how to rewire your brain if your love of adult films has taken its toll.

Some signs that you've been watching too much porn include brain fog, tiredness, demotivation and general intolerance.

"Reboot and rewire your brain by abstaining completely and do something else instead," Paul advised if you're experiencing any of the above.

He explained that the first step in getting better is admitting that you've got a problem.

The anxiety coach then advised people to work on exercising more and relaxing as masturbation is typically used as way to relieve anxiety.

"List what you are sacrificing in life through your habit and vow to get them back," he added. "Change your mindset by thinking of this as your challenge to beat!"

However, it is worth noting that there is nothing wrong with watching pornography sometimes - just be sure to consume it ethically and pay the people producing it.

If you think that you have a problem with your porn consumption, help and support can be found through Recovery.
