British man left with spinal injuries from severe flight turbulence killing one said ordeal was ‘like a movie’

British man left with spinal injuries from severe flight turbulence killing one said ordeal was ‘like a movie’

Doctors have said he might not be well enough to return to his job

A passenger onboard the Singapore Airlines flight that left one Brit dead says he cannot keep working as an engineer after suffering life-changing injuries.

Bradley Richards was left with six fractures in his spine and neck and internal bleeding after Flight SQ321 was hit with turbulence while flying from London to Singapore.

The 29-year-old believes he was knocked unconscious and said he woke up on the plane with blood pouring from his head.

A number of people were injured as the plane suddenly plummeted, with Bradley needing to be lifted into a wheelchair so he could get off the plane after it made an emergency landing in Bangkok.

While some were injured, 73-year-old British man Geoff Kitchen died from a suspected heart attack on board the flight.

Bradley, a telecoms engineer from Essex, said that the experience on board the plane felt like 'something out of a movie', as he remembers using a pillow to stem his bleeding and said he 'immediately felt spinal pain'.

He said: "I was asleep or I think I might have been knocked unconscious when it happened.

"I remember waking up and my head was just pouring with blood, kids were screaming, people running around everywhere, it was so frantic.

"It was like something out of a movie. I remember I felt the back pain straight away and blood was just pouring from my head.

"I tried to use my cushion to stem the blood - one of the ones they hand out for on the flights.

"Once we landed, I was near the back of the plane and I remember the medical staff running on and having to step over all the injured people on the floor."

He explained that he was helped off the plane as they couldn't get a stretcher over to him, resulting in people carrying him to a wheelchair.

The 29-year-old said 'it all felt so surreal' and 'was just all so traumatic' as he saw the floor of the plane littered with people who had suffered injuries.

Bradley has also been told by doctors that once he's recovered he may not be able to continue working as an engineer.

"It's just gutting - I've worked in that role for seven years and I couldn't imagine doing anything else," he said of the prospect of having to find another job.

"It’s not been pleasant I can assure you that, but I try my best to remain positive and the airline and hospital have been so good to me the health care is second to none."

Bradley has been receiving treatment in a hospital in Bangkok and not sure when he'll be able to return to the UK.

He suffered multiple fractures to the spine and neck, a spinal epidural hematoma and a laceration to his head requiring 20 stitches.
