Back in 2016, one particular trend had plenty of us absolutely sh**ting ourselves. And no, I’m not classing the swathe of pop icon deaths as a ‘trend’.
That year may have had a major release of superhero movies, brought us the meme legend that is Harambe (rest in peace king) and the boom in popularity of Pokemon Go, but it also had a much darker trend too.
I’m talking killer clowns. The creepy, bizarre, scary kind.
In 2016, the killer clown trend took over social media in both the UK and US, with people dressed as clowns spotted in the streets.

They’d jump out and scare people in videos, even reportedly chasing people down the streets.
And although there’s been the odd killer clown ‘sighting’ here and there since, it looks like they’re back once again as one has been spotted in Scotland.
A man dressed as Pennywise the Dancing Clown from the nightmare-inducing horror movie It has apparently taken to the streets of Skelmorlie in North Ayrshire.
It’s reported the ‘clown’ has set up a Facebook page called Cole Deimos.

For those that didn’t listen to the Greek Mythology chat in school, the god Deimos is the personification of fear and represented terror and dread.
On the Facebook page, it says while he ‘lives in’ Skelmorlie, he’s ‘from Hell’ and ‘studied at Clown School’.
The clown has even released a video ‘message to the media’ with their voice altered, but with a Scottish accent going strong.

After creepily sitting on a bench holding a red balloon, the clown seems pleased to have ‘made the news again’.
Addressing people’s comments that the ‘police have been informed’ of the Facebook posts, the clown says: “Do you think that I care?
“They’d have to catch me first anyway, and yes, that’s a dare.”

Walking round the Scottish town’s streets, the clown continues: “You called me killer clown, why don’t you leave the jokes to me?
“The only thing that’s dying is your credibility.”
Well that’s us told, at least this clown isn’t ‘killing’ anything or anyone, for that matter.
Apparently ‘this clown doesn’t want fame, glory or gold’ instead, ‘he just wants to play in this so called sleepy town’.

So, Skelmorlie, looks like you’re up. The video invites people to: “Come and join in and learn to fear the Skelmorlie Clown.”
Think I’ll pass, to be honest. But it doesn’t seem like this is the last we’re going to be seeing of the bizarre Scottish clown!
