Manchester City football club has been criticised over how it dealt with a barman who was spotted donning a United shirt at this weekend's derby.
The club took on Manchester United at the derby on Sunday (14 September), but ended up removing one of its workers following a complaint on social media.
Officials at the match were made aware that a barman was wearing a United shirt, after one City fan wrote on Twitter: "Absolute joke @ManCity - letting one of the bar staff in block 315 wear a United shirt on Derby Day #mcfc."
The account, which has now been deactivated, also shared a photo of the barman, who could be seen wearing the shirt with a zip-up jacket over the top.

In response to the tweet, the official City account responded: “Thank you for making us aware of this.

"We can confirm that this individual has now been removed from their position.”
It is not currently clear if the barman was removed from the post or if he lost his job over the incident.
It has also not been confirmed if the employee is an agency worker or directly working for Manchester City.

However, social media users were pretty horrified over what happened, with many believing it was 'petty' and unnecessary.
One person wrote on Twitter: "Pathetic from City."
While another said: "He should sue them 100% that's clearly unfair dismissal.
"It's kinda like a business sacking someone for having different beliefs: discrimination?"
And a third added: "How embarrassing is that? Like how fragile do the egos of the Man City fans that grassed him up have to be? Well done, now he’s jobless, probably with rent to pay. Clowns. Utter clowns."

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "What’s the club protocol with uniform etc? This could be unfair dismissal."

Others had differing opinions, however, with another adding: "He won't have worked directly for the club. Chances are it a third party that he works for but even if it wasn't the club can remove him from duties for safety reasons he deliberately wore that to get a reaction and especially on derby day it could of been worse."
Meanwhile, many United fans urged the club to give him a job instead.
One wrote: "Give him a job at man utd he deserves it."

And another added: "@ManUtd hire this dude!"
While a third said: "Man United need to give the lad a job!"
