Tesco shoppers furious after seeing what now counts as a 'main' in a meal deal

Tesco shoppers furious after seeing what now counts as a 'main' in a meal deal

One reckons the general election needs to be brought forward because of it

As much as we bang on about our ultimate choices and love to judge others for theirs, a simple meal deal can also be a point of fury for us Brits.

While many remain dedicated to picking up the main, snack and drink, plenty will simultaneously complain about the rise in price over the years.

We’re looking at you, £3 Tesco meal deals – we miss you.

But as well as the price itself really getting shoppers going, people have been left furious after seeing what now counts as a ‘main’.

Users have taken to X to rant about the meal deal choice which many have called absolute ‘nonsense’ and ‘sickening’.

One shared a snap as they wrote: “Fruit pot as a main, bring the general election forwards.”

Yep, in case you didn’t know, the likes of a 230g Grape & Berry Medley is now classed as a ‘meal deal main’.

Users called it an ‘offensive’ choice as others thought it had just been ‘incorrectly labelled’.

But Tesco actually made this decision to make the large pots a main over a year ago, with the smaller pots still available to be purchased as a snack.

However, shoppers aren’t the only ones unhappy about it, as experts worry it could be a bad move.

Tom Quinn, director of external affairs at Beat Eating Disorders, told the Mirror: "We're concerned that advertising fruit as a main meal could encourage people who are unwell to limit their food intake, which could worsen harmful behaviours and thoughts."

Some really got worked up over the fruit pot realisation as they called the move ‘absolutely f**king criminal’ and others said ‘we used to be a real country’.

Although, some did say: “The bigger fruit pots are more tasty and filling than the sandwiches lowkey.

As another echoed: “This has been a thing for a while and they‘re larger than the snack fruit pots so it‘s actually good to me as long as they keep scotch eggs and pasties as a snack.. some elite combos for those with eyes to see.”

With a user also adding: “To be fair, if you got this, apples as the snack and a fruit smoothie as your drink. That’s basically your 5 a day for £3.40. Not too bad.”

And one even said: “Best thing they ever did.”
