Donald Trump claims Ukraine war 'would never have happened' if 2020 election wasn't 'rigged' in scathing new rant

The US leader ranted at length on his Truth Social platform

Donald Trump has claimed that Russia's invasion of Ukraine wouldn't have happened if he'd won the 'rigged' 2020 election in shocking social media rant.

Ever since the Republican leader returned to the White House back in January, he's worked at length to dismantle the work of his predecessor Joe Biden, whom he repeatedly claimed 'stole' the election from him.

The shockwaves of Trump's presidency have been felt around the world, either by the economic fallout of his disastrous tariffs, or in the case of Ukraine, back-peddling on US support after Russia's 2022 invasion.

When he's not berating Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy on TV or flip flopping over the decision to allow military aid and intelligence to be shared with the country, the 78-year-old is claiming the war wouldn't have happened in the first place if he'd been in office.

Which is a bold claim considering the fact that none of us have insider knowledge on the inner workings of Russian president Vladimir Putin's mind.

His most recent rant on the subject came after US broadcaster CBS shared an interview with President Zelenskyy.

In the clip Zelenskyy spoke about Russia's continued attacks on civilians in Ukraine, with a recent missile attack killing nine children after hitting a playground in the city of Kryvyi Rih.

Trump was quick to respond to the coverage, although his anger wasn't directed at the continued killings of Ukrainian civilians.

Instead he was angry over alleged political bias in how the broadcaster was covering stories related to his presidency.

Touching on the interview with Zelenskyy as well as the invasion of Ukraine, he wrote: "They did not one, but TWO, major stories on “TRUMP,” one having to do with Ukraine, which I say is a War that would never have happened if the 2020 Election had not been RIGGED, in other words, if I were President."

Trump had refused to concede the 2020 election to Biden, claiming voter fraud and rigging, which culminated in the infamous 6 January Capitol riot.

The second story which angered Trump was reports over his continued obsession with annexing Greenland. The North Atlantic island is an autonomous territory within Denmark; however the US leader has made no secret over his Greenlandic ambitions, amid claims the island is crucial to America's economic and national security.

CBS recently visited the island for a 60 Minutes report, which claimed that just six percent of the population favour ties with America. Vice President JD Vance recently visited the arctic nation proving rather awkward.

"The other story was having to do with Greenland, casting our Country, as led by me, falsely, inaccurately, and fraudulently," he wrote, before accusing the network of doing 'everything possible to illegally elect' Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
