The US Secret Service has announced that an armed adult man was shot by its personnel on Sunday morning (9 March) outside the White House.
President Donald Trump was not at the White House when the incident occurred.
The Secret Service Chief of Communications, Anthony Guglielmi, said that the USSS had received information of a 'suicidal individual' that was travelling from Indiana to Washington D.C.

He added that USSS spotted a person matching the description in a parked car near the White House, stating: “As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel.”
The man has since been taken to hospital, with his condition unknown, while the USSS said that there were no injuries to members of its team.
Guglielmi revealed that DC Metropolitan Police’s Internal Affairs Division Force Investigations Team will lead the investigation into the incident.
