Police reveal worrying discovery in search for fugitive dad suspected of killing three daughters

Police have been hunting for Travis Decker since May

Human remains have been found by police hunting for father-of-three Travis Decker.

Authorities have been searching for the dad since May following the discovery of the bodies of his daughters Paityn, nine, Evelyn, eight, and five-year-old Olivia.

The 32-year-old is alleged to have killed the girls before dumping them at a campsite in Leavenworth, Washington.

Cops have been searching for the alleged killer, who is wanted for three counts of first-degree murder and kidnapping in the first-degree, over the last three months.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office has now announced that human remains had been found by officers on Thursday (18 September) amid the hunt for Decker.

Police believe they belong to the former soldier, although DNA analysis has yet to take place.

"While positive identification has not yet been confirmed, preliminary findings suggest the remains belong to Travis Decker," a statement from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said.

Officials have used drones, a swift water team, cadaver dogs and even GoPros to try and track down Decker since his three children were found dead on 2 June.

Three days prior, their mother Whitney Decker had reported them missing after the dad did not return the kids after collecting the girls for a planned custody visit.

Last month, the FBI and other law enforcement entities revealed a grid search operation had been launched within the vicinity of the Rock Island Campground, which is where Paityn, Evelyn and Olivia were found dead.

While wading through 'extremely heavy vegetation' and 'challenging' terrain, cops covered managed to recover 'several items' - including a set of bones.

Paityn, Evelyn and Olivia died from suffocation - and horrifically, the sisters were each found with a plastic bag over their heads and their hands zip-tied together.

The only DNA found at the scene matched Decker's, which authorities said 'indicates that he is the only suspect involved in committing these homicides'.

Police believe he likely escaped on foot after allegedly killing his daughters and abandoning his truck - which investigators said he was living in his prior to the murders.

Decker was last seen wearing a light-coloured t-shirt and dark shorts, while he is described as being a 5ft 8ins white man with black hair and brown eyes.

He was reportedly an army veteran with wilderness survival skills.

Friends of the girls' mother have set up a GoFundMe to support any legal costs and expenses that Whitney may incur.
