A woman has explained exactly how she and a friend were able to survive a near death situation after getting stuck in a remote Arizona canyon.
US-based canyoneer Elfy - who goes by @elfyouall on TikTok - had travelled out to the Wildcat Tank Canyon near the city of Page in Arizona. However, her day trip turned out to be an ordeal which mirrored 2010 film 127 Hours.
Elfy recounted her ordeal in a series of videos on her social media account, explaining that she and a friend had set off to the location after doing extensive research on the location.
All of the research Elfy had done prior to heading out to the canyon had told her the excursion would be 'really easy' on the difficulty scale.

However, she went on to admit that she had underestimated how hot it was on the day and how much the sweltering temperature would impact her.
After beginning the descent in the early hours of a 'very, very hot' afternoon, Elfy began to struggle with the temperature and began 'sliding down' the canyon.
"I think we underestimated it, the heat really took a lot of my strength out of me. I became shaky and I started sliding. Then I started panicking and and I slid, I started going deeper into the canyon and just slid to the bottom," she explained, adding that he was scared of moving around too much in the canyon due in fears of sustaining a 'crush injury'.

"We tried several ways to get out," she continued. "My friend tried to get to me. I feel like if we'd had another person there it would've been smarter, clearly you start realising your mistakes."
Elfy then went on to explain that the two of them spent around 'three hours' attempting to free themselves from the canyon, as the fear of not being rescued in time began to set in.
She then went on to add that she usually tells her mother the exact location and planned time of return when going canyoning but hadn't on this occasion - something which she acknowledges was a 'mistake'.
After spending several hours stuck without signal, Elfy's friend was lucky enough to receive service on her phone for about 'a minute or two'.

Her friend was then able to send a distress message and their location to multiple contacts before attempting to ring emergency services - something which Elfy admits saved their lives that day.
After four more hours emergency services were able to reach them, with Elfy having spent a total of 13 hours trapped in the canyon and around nine hours without water, before being rescued.
Elfy was not in a good condition after being rescued and was unable to walk out due to kidney damage which she had sustained.

"The whole thing was embarrassing I did not anticipate getting stuck," she concluded. "I never wanted to be one of those people or waste peoples resources or time or energy."
