Women kicked off plane after being told to 'cover up' by crew over outfits they were wearing

Women kicked off plane after being told to 'cover up' by crew over outfits they were wearing

The women have since blasted the airline on social media

Two women have claimed they were thrown off a plane for wearing 'inappropriate' clothing.

When you're spending several hours confined to an airline seat 30,000 feet in the air, it's not an unreasonable ask to want to be wearing comfortable clothes.

However, for two American women, their choice of attire allegedly lead to an awkward altercation with airline staff, and the two of them being removed from the flight.

Teresa Araujo, 34, was travelling from Los Angeles to New Orleans with her friend Tara Kehidi onboard Spirit Airlines in order to celebrate a friend's birthday.

However, the pair appear to have been kicked off over their choice in clothing.

The women had opted to wear jeans, crop tops, and jumpers for the three-hour-and-40-minute flight - and were left stunned after being allegedly told by a male flight attendant to cover themselves up.

The situation appeared to escalate further after the women took off their sweaters, which they say was due to the hot temperature on the plane.

This would cause the situation to escalate, ending in Teresa and Tara being taken back to the gate and asked to leave.

The travel influencer documented the experience in a series of videos shared on social media, before they were asked to stop recording the incident.

"My friend and I had a terrible experience on Friday on the flight 387 from Lax to New Orleans with @spiritairlines. We were harassed by a male flight attendant who told us to 'cover up' because we were wearing crop tops," she would later write on social media (via The Mirror).

"Other passengers joined in and tried defending us, but ultimately, a supervisor talked to us and told [us] either we would leave the flight or she would bring [in] the police."

The woman added that they weren't refunded for the flight and had to pay extra to fly out to New Orleans with a different airline.

A spokesperson for Spirit Airlines has since said the company are investigating the incident and pointed to the airline's 'Contract of Carriage'.

The 60-page document includes expectations of passengers onboard their flights, which includes a line stating that passengers may be required to leave' if they are 'barefoot or inadequately clothed, or whose clothing is lewd, obscene, or offensive in nature'.

"Our Contract of Carriage, a document all guests agree to upon making a reservation with us, includes certain clothing standards for all guests traveling with us," a spokesperson for the airline added.

"We are investigating the matter, and we are in contact with the guests about their experience."

Regarding the clause, the two women later told MailOnline they had contacted the airline and were informed that 'there's nothing against crop tops on their dress code. It's not under lewd or anything or anything like that'.

LADbible Group has approached Spirit Airlines for further comment.
