Olivia Newton-John’s family has been in talks with the Victorian government about holding a state funeral honouring the late singer.
ABC News reports that Premier Daniel Andrews spoke yesterday (August 9) of his encounter with the Grease star while citing her contributions to cancer research as ‘enormous’.
He said: "I was honoured to meet Olivia Newton-John on many different occasions, particularly in connection with the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre.

"An absolutely supreme talent, a person of grace, a person of such energy and vitality.
"She took her cancer journey and used that to save lives and change lives."
While appearing on A Current Affair, Newton-John's niece Totti Goldsmith confirmed that the family would accept an offer for a state funeral.

"We will," she said. "On behalf of not just our family but I think Australia needs it."

Shortly after her passing, her husband, John Easterling, wrote on social media: "Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends.
"We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.
"Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer.”
He added: "In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund (ONJFoundationFund.org).”
News of her death sent shock waves worldwide, with many posting their grievances.

Her former co-star John Travolta took to Instagram, writing: "My dearest Olivia... Your impact was incredible.
"I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!"
While her daughter Chloe Rose Lattanzi wrote a heartfelt post, calling her mother her ‘lighthouse’.
