ASDA has dropped its Christmas advert for 2022 and some are calling it a strong contender for the best of the year.
When you use one of the best festive movies in history as your fodder then you're bound to win over some viewers.

The ad shows Will Ferrell's Buddy the Elf character from the hit film Elf apply for a seasonal manager job at ASDA.
The supermarket picked out some of the best moments from the 2003 film and edited him onto the UK supermarket.
While some people have flocked to social media to praise the advert, others think the editing is fairly lame.
One person wrote: "I haaaate the new Asda advert. 1) can't stand Elf (sorry) but 2) the editing is awful."

Another added: "Sorry but the Asda Christmas advert is awful. That editing is shocking."
A third said: "I've just seen an Asda Christmas advert that splices in scenes from Elf and it may well be the worst thing I've ever seen in my life."
To be fair, it's impressive how they managed to get Buddy into all the scenes and make it look like Will Ferrell actually performed for ASDA.

No doubt that would have cost a fortune, so editing him in there would have been the next (and cheaper) best thing.
While some people weren't convinced with ASDA's offering for 2022, there were loads of people who thought it looked amazing.
Some even suggested other UK brands shouldn't even bother trying to compete this year for people's love.
"That’s it, everyone else can take a rest this year. @asda has already won this years Christmas ad," a viewer said on social media.

Another fan said: "I thought it was gonna be an older Will Farrell with makeup on and that, but the fact that they got clips from the elf movie and made it look so real is brilliant! One of the best ads I’ve seen so far."
A third commented: "Just when you thought Christmas was dead. Well done to Asda for bringing some life back into the Christmas advert. This is certainly one way to bring customers back into your stores."
Christmas adverts are a huge deal in the UK and many brands all try to outdo each other every year.
Some opt for nostalgia, others go for that warm fuzzy feeling to spread joy, and a few go really left-field with their offerings.

It's all meant to put a smile on people's faces and spread that festive cheer.
