People are being warned to wash their vegetables after a woman discovered a swarm of insects munching their way through her broccoli.
While anyone would want to buy broccoli in the first place besides the novelty of it looking like a tree is a mystery to this writer given the vegetable's exquisitely disgusting taste, but it takes all kinds to make a world.
Anyhow, one woman got a particularly nasty shock when she inspected the broccoli she'd bought and spotted that it had become infested with bugs which were proceeding to chomp down on their new home.

Quite why they were eating such a foul tasting food is unknown, as the insects were unavailable for comment, but the woman discovered a whole bunch of bugs swarming all over her broccoli.
Supermarkets might be considering selling edible insects as some sort of food of the future, but you'd assume those bugs would be dead and in their own packaging, not a living buy-one-get-one-free offer eating their way through the rest of your shopping.
Posting her disgusting discovery to TikTok, the woman got a whole world of sympathy along with plenty of revolted reactions.

It's pretty safe to say that the swarm of bugs in the broccoli didn't go down well with people who saw the video, with many declaring it to be an utterly disgusting sight.
While broccoli alone is bad enough, taking a closer peek and discovering all the bugs hidden within had people saying 'never again' to tucking into a plateful of the little green trees.
Others protested that they'd seen the video either shortly after eating broccoli or just before cooking up a dish containing the vegetable and it had put them right off their dinner.
Some joked that they didn't mind their veg coming with a bit of 'extra protein', and given broccoli already tastes terrible it might be worth it if you can stand the crunch.

Others offered helpful tips on the best way to wash fresh veg and ensure that any creepy crawlies hidden beneath the leaf were done away with.
The most popular tip was 'washing with vinegar and baking soda', which is a pretty handy approach for those looking for a budget cleaning tip in general.
Vinegar and baking soda combined foams up (sometimes explosively, remember science class?) and forms a handy cleaning substance, plus the edible nature of the ingredients spares you from having to season your broccoli with Dettol.

Another said you're 'supposed to wash fresh vegetables' after buying them to scour away the risk of insect infestation, while 'frozen veg all the way' was another popular comment.
Someone else recommended sticking to more faithful foods, declaring 'pizza has never done me this way', and given the choice between a lovely pizza or potentially bug-infested broccoli I know what I'd pick.
