Bus rides may not be a lot of people's first choice when it comes to public transport but sometimes, it's the only option.
On Saturday 24 February in Rockingham, a city in Australia about 50km south west of Perth, a bus was doing a routine run along its regular route.
And for these specific passengers, their otherwise dull and routine bus ride would be given a chilling twist.

You'd focus on trying to get on your final destination, avoid questionable passengers onboard and probably listen to some music on a regular bus trip, but one eagle-eyed person on this bus found something that would change the trip for everyone.
For most, a discovery on the bus would be some spare change on the floor, or maybe a half drunk can of beer, or maybe that the floor below you is particularly sticky.
But this passenger looked and uncovered a white plastic container that was onboard the bus - something that may not sound too interesting at first, and could have been found by anybody.

However, upon closer inspection, they discovered that the box actually contained human ashes.
Left completely unattended on a bus, the person was disturbed and handed the box of ashes into a police station on Tuesday 12 March.
When police received the odd container, they took to X, formerly Twitter on Tuesday 9 April to urge the family of the deceased person to come forward and collect the remains, as no-one had come forward.
"This container of ashes was left on a bus in Rockingham," the local police shared, along with a photo of said container.

On the lid of the rectangular container, the dates '24/4/77' and '29/4/23' were written in black either side of the name 'Ranga' in pink, as well as a few shapes, including a love heart, which were scrawled around the name.
According to the dates on the box, the deceased person would have been 46-years-old when they died.
A spokeswoman from the Western Australia Police revealed to Daily Mail Australia that police don't know where the bus was travelling to during the time the box was found.

The spokeswoman stated: "It is unknown which bus route the bus travelled, but was possibly the 549 Route which travels between Rockingham and Fremantle."
The police also urged anyone with further information, or the person that left the box on the bus, to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
