Parents left completely stunned after son who had been 'dead for six months' called them

He was actually alive and well, as you can probably guess from the fact he called his parents

A man who called his parents after realising he hadn't heard from them in a while was surprised to learn they thought he'd been 'dead for six months'.

Buckle up gang, this is one hell of a wild ride.

New Zealand's ZM Radio show got a call from a man named Callum who said that he had a crazy story about the time his family thought he was dead for months and he had no idea.

"I've just told mum and dad that Callum's dead even though he's not, there is no way this fool proof plan could ever backfire on me unless he ever contacts them again." (Getty Stock Photo)

He explained that his 'sisters were in a bit of a tiff with my parents at the time and they weren't really getting along', and he wasn't really in the picture as he lived in Wellington while they were in Christchurch.

In case you're not familiar with New Zealand's geography, it's got two main islands and the cities are on different islands, which might help explain why they didn't see each other much.

“My older sister actually called my parents up and told them that I had died," Callum explained of how his family came to think he'd been interred six feet under.

Callum said he later learned this his older sister had told their parents that his funeral had already been and gone, and that mum and dad hadn't been invited because 'my ex-girlfriend's parents didn't want them there'.

The radio hosts said that Callum's sister 'sounds like a crazy b***h', a sentiment he agreed with, as they wondered how her lie managed to go for six months without being discovered.

Callum said: "I was just busy with life and work and then I was like 'wait - I haven't heard from my parents in a while, I wonder what's going on?'

“And I gave them a call up, and my mum and dad were like 'you're alive?'

"My mum was absolutely in tears and my dad was just kind of gobsmacked - he was just like 'what the f**k is going on?"

After this whole incident, it turns out that Callum's parents don't really talk to his sister any more considering she made them think he was dead for six months.

When the lie was first dropped, her parents had been calling everyone they knew trying to find out what was happening and if anyone else had heard something else, but the one person they didn't call was Callum as they thought he was dead.

According to the bloke, his sister told his parents he'd been stabbed to death, and oddly enough, he admitted on air that at the time it happened 'it wouldn't have been un-peculiar for me to get stabbed'.

As you can imagine, his parents were 'over the moon' to discover that their dead son wasn't actually dead after all.
