In Russia's latest show of strength, the Kremlin has released footage of a fearsome 'new cruise missile' while showing off the nation's 'promising' new weapons systems.
It appears that Vladimir Putin's forces have an arsenal of unseen artillery in the works, as former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev was seen inspecting a projectile with a shark-like nose at the Kapustin Yar test site.
Little is known about the new bit of kit which was put on display in the Astrakhan region, as experts said it doesn't resemble any of Russia's known weapons.
But it's sure to come as a shock to the US, as it comes just days after Donald Trump urged Putin to 'stop' raining missiles down on Ukraine.
In a rare critique of the dictator, Trump announced he was 'not happy' with Russia after nine people were killed and more than 70 were injured in an airstrike on Kyiv.
The 'new cruise missile' was on display at the Kapustin Yar test site (East2West) "Not necessary, and very bad timing," Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform. "Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Let’s get the Peace Deal DONE!"
Putin has since declared a three-day ceasefire in Ukraine, lasting from 8-11 May, which the Kremlin said it expects Ukraine to reciprocate.
Russia warned that troops would respond to any 'violations' of the temporary truce, which comes after both sides accused one another of violating a brief armistice over Easter.
So, the timing of the release of the footage which shows Medvedev, 59, examining Russia's new firepower is interesting, to say the least.
Take a look at the terrifying new missile here:
Medvedev, who has served as the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia since 2020, was shown the launches of other new weapons too.
No details were given about the missile sporting a shark-like nose, and it is suspected that it could be a mockup of prototype, rather than the finished article.
In it's fleeting appearance in the footage, it appears not to be the finished product, as it is said to lack flush rivets and smooth bonded joints.
It may be a display or training version of a new missile, rather than an active one.
War analyst Kirill Fyodorov said 'nothing interesting' was revealed in the video of Medvedev, 'except for a couple of seconds, where we were briefly shown an unknown cruise missile'.
Dmitry Medvedev, who heads up Russia's Security Council, was seen inspecting the weapons (East2West) "In appearance, it is a bit similar to the [Russian] Kh-101 - even the tail unit is similar, but it is clearly not one," he observed.
The Military Informant channel also shared a theory about what the missile resembles - ironically pointing out that it looks like a precision-guided cruise missile used by the US.
Discussing the 'new unknown cruise missile', it said: "The product resembles the American low-observability cruise missile AGM-158 JASSM, which has a very similar 'pencil' shape of the warhead."
The parade of Russia's new weaponry took place at the Kapustin Yar test site, which Medvedev was paying a visit to.
It's where Putin's nuclear-capable intermediate-range ballistic 'wonder weapon', the Oreshnik missile, was launched from last year in an attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.
A range of missiles were tested during Medvedev's visit (East2West) Medvedev said he had seen 'promising means of defeat' at the test site, including 'rocket and barrel artillery, barrage munitions, unmanned aerial vehicles and anti-aircraft weapons'.
"We saw the launches of new rockets, increased anti-jamming protection and long-range projectiles for our main artillery systems," the Russian politician said.
"The growing need for these systems was discussed just three days ago at a meeting of the Military-Industrial Commission headed by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief [Putin].
"Let us now discuss what has been achieved and the results."
