Ah, stag dos abroad. Singing on the plane there, nursing a hangover on the way back.
There are all sorts of traditions that come with the typically messy lad’s holidays, with your mate’s wedding really just used as an excuse for a trip.
From sneaking sex toys into their hand luggage to having the groom down a pint at any given opportunity, there is, of course, the fancy dress element.

Some stag dos might show up to the airport in full costume or just save it for walking around the destination.
But it’s bad news for some groups as a popular destination has proposed banning fancy dress in a clampdown on rowdy tourists.
A council in the European city, known for cheap beer and stunning sights, wants to clean up the place’s image and wants to ban ‘outrageous costumes’ often worn by stag and hen parties.

According to local media, Prague 1 recently approved a resolution to negotiate with the city municipality regarding the potential ban.
Tourist upset in Prague
Local residents have grown increasingly annoyed by the situation as tourists are led on ‘pub crawls’ through Prague with areas dense with bars and nightclubs.
Recently, Štěpán Kuchta reportedly began a hunger strike to protest the perceived inaction of local authorities.

"My health is already ruined by chronic noise. A hunger strike is nothing against that.” he told Novinky.cz.
The council implemented a night-time ban on non-delivery vehicles in the Old Town area, but this measure was criticised and ended up being cancelled.
Banning costumes
Bronislava Sitár Baboráková, chair of the committee against depopulation and for supporting community life, proposed this resolution of banning costumes as he argued they ‘exceed acceptable social norms and negatively impact residents, especially children and senior citizens’.

Will there be a solution to the problem?
However, according to the councillor for property, transparency and legislation, Adam Zábranský, a direct ban on the fancy dress isn’t the most suitable solution to the problem.
“We understand the frustration with pub crawls and drunken tourists,” he stated, “but imposing a ban on silly costumes seems excessive.”

It’s reported negotiations between Prague 1 and the city municipality are underway.
It’s a hoped a solution can be found to address disruptive tourist behaviour in Prague ‘while avoiding an outright ban on costumes’.
So, it seems you can still go out to the European city and enjoy a big stag do. But the locals probably won’t be too happy to see you and there might be changes to your experience as a result of this clamp down on behaviour.
